It is very late in the season for peaches, but we did have some as late as this past Sunday. However, peaches may be done by this coming Sunday. And also, keep in mind that the seasons for different kinds of peaches vary dramatically… some early and some late… and we go through them in waves. Plus, I am not sure I’ve seen that variety around in a while. That said, it has been an epic year here for tree fruit of all kinds so I imagine your dad will find something to love just as much!

Do you think Ballard Market will have Elberta Peaches this coming Sunday 10/5?

Coming up from Hawaii this weekend and dad remembers these peaches from the 50s.

    Mahalo,

I honestly don’t know. My best advice is to ask the folks who have cherries normally. They may have some pie cherries that they aren’t bringing to Market, but that they can bring to you.

Does it look like anyone will be selling pie cherries this year?

To the best of my knowledge, no one is commercially producing figs in Washington state. Your best bet for fresh, local figs is likely to find someone with a tree in their yard here in the city and ask them if you can harvest some of them, as most people I know don’t get through all the figs on their trees.

As for recipes, I encourage readers here to submit recipes they have, as it is unlikely any recipes are forthcoming from the Market’s staff, farmers or chefs, since figs are not available for sale at the Market. Please remember, though, that when you submit a recipe, it needs to be yours to publish, as we do not want to run amok of copyright laws.
